Step 1: Choose a forest type

Each forest type includes indigenous plant species suited to different Los Angeles micro-climates, including the Santa Monica mountains and the L.A. basin.

Step 2: Set square footage

Use the square footage of your space to calculate how many plants are needed for each forest layer.


This will make a forest with 0 total plants.
  • To create a forest, you need at least one canopy tree and a minimum of 125 square feet.
  • For smaller spaces below 125 square feet: you can still plant sub-trees, shrubs and perennials.
